Research and projects to be carried out about the Solent If you are a student and are interested in taking forward research on the different aspects of the Solent you may like to undertake one of the projects identified by the Solent Forum.

If you are a member and have any research projects or needs that you would like us to add to the website, please contact the Solent Forum.

View other Searchable Databases, there is an increasing number of local, national and international databases covering a wide range of topics which allow users to access either the data or metadata. These cover a range of topics and include designation information.

A metadatabase has been established at the Solent Forum. To start with it focussed solely on GIS datasets that are pertinent to the Solent but it has since grown to include other datasets as we become aware of them. It has since evolved and now includes metadata on all research and monitoring projects which have been carried out in the Solent.

This is an ambitious project for the Solent Forum to undertake but, it is hoped that its completion will provide a tool and a process to identify sources of data and in so doing forge stronger ties with academic and industry institutions as well as encourage public/private partnerships.

There are essentially 3 elements to this project which are:

1. To develop and maintain a meta-data database of research projects relevant to the Solent region;

2. To determine research needs of Forum members;

Metadata are defined as data about data. Metadata describe the content, quality, availability, and other characteristics of data. This allows other researchers, managers, and other interested parties to discover what research/data is being done/collected and assess the suitability of the data for a particular application.

The database has more than 1000 records and is being added to constantly.
