Around the Solent Phase II
In June 2006, the primary project partners agreed to take the recommendations of Phase I forward through the preparation of a large Heritage Lottery Fund project. The Solent Forum Steering Group agreed to this being done in-house and thanks to primary project partner funding, work on this stage has now begun. We want to hear about any project that meets our project criteria. The closing date for project submissions is Friday 23 February 2007.
In time it will be necessary to 'package' related projects together into Solentwide deliverables but for now we are interested in any project ideas that fit the Around the Solent (ATS) remit of improving access and/or raising awareness. We would particularly be interested in hearing from organisations wishing to be key theme gateways; to develop cross-Solent links; update or develop education materials or create short circular trails. To assist in the development of relevant projects, essential criteria have been put together.
Projects must:
- Be in the Solent area (beside, on, in sight of);
- Be related to one of more of the following: access improvements; interpretation; outreach work or educations resources
- Provide for at least one of the following audiences: older people; people from ethnic minorities; young people; local residents; people with disabilities; visitors to the area; and families with young children; and
- Explore one or more of the following themes (if an interpretation project): Figureheads (e.g. writers, artists, inventors, explorers, heroes, innovators); National defence (e.g. built heritage, royal navy, shipbuilding, maritime archaeology; military aviation); Nature's way (e.g. tides; nature conservation; sea-level rise; coastal erosion); People in landscape (e.g. built environment; past and present industries); and Trade and migration (e.g. commercial shipping; flying boats; travel; emigration; cruising).
